I may still comment occasionally, and I might even post, but for the most part, I will be using Facebook as my social networking site now.
Thanks to everyone who followed and commented on my blog, I am gonna leave it up in case things change, but I will understand if you stop following. Take care, one and all, I hope I eventually get to a point in my life where I can use both Blogger AND Facebook, but that time is not now.

Slainte Vhar!Einarhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12499181663801115074noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5761584014655700665.post-24177973550877988222010-04-19T17:53:00.000-07:002010-04-19T18:11:40.911-07:00The Parting GlassOk, so the next Trad Irish song, been awhile since I posted, so I figured I'd post this until something INTERESTING happens.

This one is the only one so far that I have not even begun to memorize, as I only found it recently. That is soon to change however, as I LOVE THIS SONG, and want it played at my Funeral :)

You can listen to a FANTASTIC version here. Seriously, I cannot reccomend this song highly enough to someone who likes Irish music, Bagpipes, or even music of any kind! LISTEN TO IT!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xDB87o-njFQ&feature=related

These are the exact same lyrics as in the video, and if you followed my advice and listened to the FANTABULOUS SONG, you will note that they do not come in until about halfway through. Also, there are a few lines of Gaelic just before the actual lyrics,I have searched long and hard for the translation, and simply cannot FIND them. My Gaelic is not yet up to scratch either, so I dunno what they say. Sorry :(

The Parting Glass
Trad. Irish song
From "Waking Ned Devine" soundtrack
arr. by Shaun Davey, sung by Liam O'Maunlai.

All the money that e'er I had
I spent it in good company
And all the harm I've ever done
Alas,It was to none but me

And all I've done for want of wit
To memory now,I can't recall
So fill to me the parting glass
Goodnight and joy be to you all!

Fill to me the parting glass
And drink a health whate'er befalls
Then gently rise and softly call
Goodnight and joy be to you all!

Of all the comrades that e'er I had
They're sorry for my going away
And all the sweethearts that e'er I had
They'd wish me one more day to stay.

Since it fell into my lot
that I should rise, and you should not
I'll gently rise and softly call
Goodnight and joy be to you all!

But since it fell into my lot
That I should rise and you should not
I'll gently rise and softly call
Goodnight and joy be to you all!

So fill to me the parting glass
And drink a health whate'er befalls
Then gently rise and softly call
Goodnight and joy be to you all!

Only song so far that brings tears to my eyes, both happy and sad.
Don't ya'll worry, I'll return to my ususal crazy scary self next post :)
Maybe....Einarhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12499181663801115074noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5761584014655700665.post-91126713319362437432010-03-21T18:29:00.000-07:002010-03-21T20:26:18.011-07:00Poll ResultsWell, I am planning to put up some more polls sometime soon, but in order to keep the blog sidebar from becoming clogged with them, I decided to delete the old ones first, but because they showed such INTERESTING things about the few readers I have, I ALSO decided to immortalize them in an epic post talking about the results.

So! The result of the Critters poll!

Love em!

9 (75%)

Hate em!

0 (0%)

Meh, don't care.

1 (8%)

I like some.

2 (16%)

I think can all safely agree that people like critters, 9 out of 12 voters LOVED EM, and 2 out of 12 said they liked at least a few, with one one not really caring, and none hating them. A clear win for the critters, and therfore everyone involved =D

For the whistle poll:

Overton

3 (60%)

Shaw

0 (0%)
Chieftan

0 (0%)
Susato

2 (40%)

Generation

0 (0%)
Feadog

2 (40%)

Oak

0 (0%)
Walton

0 (0%)
Clarke

1 (20%)

Handmade

3 (60%)

Other

1 (20%)

Ok, so this one and the Coolest poll are both kinda hard to explain, I enabled peoples to vote for more than one thing for both of them, so all I can say for this one is that Overton tied with Handmade, (Both are actually handmade, but Overton is a brand-name, wheras for handmade I was mainly thinking HOMEmade)

The Coolest poll! Same as before, all I can say is WHAT THE HECK? NO ONE liked trick roping? Ah well, at least writing and swordfighting were first and second.

Swordfighting

9 (75%)

Pennywhistles

5 (41%)

Trenchcoats

3 (25%)

Trick Roping

0 (0%)
Geeking

1 (8%)

Speed Reading

4 (33%)

Bagpipes

3 (25%)

Woodcarving

5 (41%)

Metal Working

2 (16%)

Wilderness Stuff

4 (33%)

Hunting

3 (25%)

Rock Hounding

3 (25%)

Writing

11 (91%)

Does Einar post often enough? KUDOS to those of you who said Yes Sir! And for those who think my polls are frustrating, well.....go....vote on the NEW and IMPROVED Polls! Less frustration per question!

Yes Sir!

4 (30%)

Always!

0 (0%)

Of course!

0 (0%)

Yes, but his polls are frustrating

9 (69%

WHO?!?! FIVE people voted on a poll when they didn't even know the blog's owner! HAH!

And since those who did not think me scary enough outnumbered those who did by one vote, I shall BE MORE SCARY! Sorry for those who had to change their pants. maybe you should watch The Village to toughen yer nerves.

Who?

5 (26%)

Nah

7 (36%)

Yes!

1 (5%)

Excuse me, I have to go change.....

6 (31%)

WHOOT! Gaelic had as many votes as the rest put together! ERIN GO BRAGH!!!
Whoever voted for french had better HIDE. I have a piece of cheese with yer name on it...

Gaelic

9 (50%)

Spanish

4 (22%)

Latin

1 (5%)

Greek

0 (0%)
HTML

3 (16%)

French

1 (5%)

Old English

0 (0%)
German

0 (0%)
Dutch

0 (0%)

Thats it! Polls are goin down, new ones will replace them! Have a nice Easter everybody!

Oh, and I am quite dismayed to report that we are now a socialist country, the healthcare bill was passed at 11:00 tonight. Pray for the USA. The end times are coming with the fall of the last free nation on earth.Einarhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12499181663801115074noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5761584014655700665.post-67084714746897115592010-03-20T19:54:00.000-07:002010-03-20T20:24:09.339-07:00The Foggy Dew!Ok, so this is the only song so far that I don't actually have compltely memorized, I am still having trouble with two of the middle verses, but I should have it down pretty soon!

A superb version of the song played by the Dubliners here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VjnOp3IBqMI&feature=related

An interesting fact I have noticed about this song is that many bands omit the last verses, ending the song with "Bore the fight, that Freedom's light, might shine through the foggy dew."

I do not understand this in the least, my favorite verse of the entire song is the last one, "But to and fro in my dreams I go and I'd kneel and pray for you, For slavery fled, O glorious dead, When you fell in the foggy dew."

Ah well, plenty of bands sing it the way I like, and although the Dubliners sing it wonderfully, I would have to say that my favorite version would be the one done by Celtic Cross, it's use of the the banjo and fiddle to liven the song up is simply phenomenal. Buy it from iTunes if you have a spare buck and like that sort of music, you won't regret it!

Here are the lyrics.

As down the glen one Easter morn to a city fair rode I
There Armed lines of marching men in squadrons passed me by
No fife did hum nor battle drum did sound it's dread tatoo
But the Angelus bell o'er the Liffey swell rang out through the foggy dew

Right proudly high over Dublin Town they hung out the flag of war
'Twas better to die 'neath an Irish sky than at Sulva or Sud El Bar
And from the plains of Royal Meath strong men came hurrying through
While Britannia's Huns, with their long range guns sailed in through the foggy dew

'Twas Britannia bade our Wild Geese go that small nations might be free
But their lonely graves are by Sulva's waves or the shore of the Great North Sea
Oh, had they died by Pearse's side or fought with Cathal Brugha
Their names we will keep where the fenians sleep 'neath the shroud of the foggy dew

But the bravest fell, and the requiem bell rang mournfully and clear
For those who died that Eastertide in the springing of the year
And the world did gaze, in deep amaze, at those fearless men, but few
Who bore the fight that freedom's light might shine through the foggy dew

Ah, back through the glen I rode again and my heart with grief was sore
For I parted then with valiant men whom I never shall see more
But to and fro in my dreams I go and I'd kneel and pray for you,
For slavery fled, O glorious dead, When you fell in the foggy dew.

Next up, The Rocky Road to Dublin, another that I have only partly memorized, in part due to the speed with which one must shout out the unfamiliar words, then we will try some more obscure songs that while not as well known, are just as fun!Einarhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12499181663801115074noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5761584014655700665.post-40331315715334559752010-03-17T08:23:00.001-07:002010-03-17T08:23:36.814-07:00Saint Paddy's Day!Happy Saint Paddy's day yo all me loyal followers!

GO CHASE A LEPRECHAUN! My Dad managed to completely blindside me with my first big surprise in AGES. He took me to DC to see my grandparents, and then on the pretense of going to Old Town Alexandria to look for some sessions to play in, took me instead to Birchmere, a famous Concert Hall slash restaurant.

And you will never guess who was performing there.

Gaelic Storm. LIVE. Tickets were only $35 per person.

BEST NIGHT OF MY LIFE.

Oh man it was so great! I can’t possibly explain how cool it was to see some of my favorite artists performing live. I enjoyed nearly all the songs (One had more than few obscenities in it, which bothered me) got to see BOTH types of bagpipes played MAGNIFICENTLY, and was able to talk to the artists later!

Pat Murphy seemed a little brusque to me, but the other musicians were friendly as anyone I’ve met! Jessie in particular (The fiddle player) was very sweet. They all signed my whistle bag fer me (Pat Murphy said it was the first time he has ever signed such an article) and we bought several fine T-Shirts, adorned by bottles, snails, and the new awesomely-cool Gaelic Storm Logo.

Me gots a black shirt with a green snail, the GS logo, and the words “Don’t go fer ‘th one!” on the back. EPIC!

I will be asking my dear parents if I can post some of the pictures and videos we took here on the blog, stay tuned!Einarhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12499181663801115074noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5761584014655700665.post-4755438667368932022010-02-28T14:28:00.000-08:002010-03-01T18:40:26.989-08:00FIRE VideoBlogger is frustrating, I had to revert my post editor back to the OLDER version in order to upload a video, what's up with that?

Anyways, here is me playing with fire:)

Einarhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12499181663801115074noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5761584014655700665.post-65295206039158282882010-02-26T21:27:00.000-08:002010-02-26T21:29:42.617-08:00New Songs on PlaylistDun Dun DUNNNNN!!!!! A tune from Scotland this time!

Cope sent a challenge fae Dunbar
"Charlie meet me on hin daur
I'll learn ye the airt o' war
If ye meet me in the mornin'"

Hey Johnny Cope are ye wauken yet?
Or are your drums a-beatin' yet?
If ye were wauken I wad wait
Tae gang tae the cauls in the mornin'

When Charlie looked the letter upon
He drew his sword its scabbard from
"Come follow me my merry men
And we'll meet Johnny Cope in the mornin'"

Hey Johnny Cope are ye wauken yet?
Or are your drums a-beatin' yet?
If ye were wauken I wad wait
Tae gang tae the cauls in the mornin'

"Now Johnny be as good as your word
And let us try baith fire and sword
And dinnae flee like a frightened bird
That's chased fae it's nest in the mornin'"

Hey Johnny Cope are ye wauken yet?
Or are your drums a-beatin' yet?
If ye were wauken I wad wait
Tae gang tae the cauls in the mornin'

When Johnny Cope he heard o' this
He taut it wouldna' be amiss
Tae have a horse in readiness
That last bit is a mini-glossary fer those of you who don't know the more obscure bits of Scottish lingo. I'm not going to bother translating Ye or Fae, or any other obvious ones.

The song can be seen/heard here, although this is not the exact same version as the lyrics posted here.

Most of these I can sing passably, and they are quite fun to roar at the top of yer lungs whilst doing the dishes or folding laundry, startling all nearby family members and wildlife into submission.

The first, Nell Flaherty's Drake, I like because of the wonderful imagination the singer apparently has for torments to inflict upon his enemy.

Oh my name it is Nell and the truth for to tell
I come from Cootehill which I'll never deny
I had a fine drake and I'd die for his sake
That me grandmother left me and she goin' to die
The dear little fellow his legs they were yellow
He could fly like a swallow or swim like a hake
Till some dirty savage to grease his white cabbage
Most wantonly murdered me beautiful drake

Now his neck it was green almost fit to be seen
He was fit for a queen of the highest degree
His body was white, and it would you delight
He was plump, fat, and heavy and brisk as a bee
He was wholesome and sound, he would weigh twenty pound
And the universe round I would roam for his sake
Bad luck to the robber be he drunk or sober
That murdered Nell Flaherty's beautiful drake

May his spade never dig, may his sow never pig
May each hair in his wig be well trashed with the flail
My his door never latch, may his roof have no thatch
May his turkeys not hatch, may the rats eat his meal
May every old fairy from Cork to Dun Laoghaire
Dip him snug and airy in river or lake
That the eel and the trout they may dine on the snout
Of the monster that murdered Nell Flaherty's drake

May his pig never grunt, may his cat never hunt
May a ghost ever haunt him the dead of the night
May his hens never lay, may his horse never neigh
May his coat fly away like an old paper kite
That the flies and the fleas may the wretch ever tease
May the piercin' March breeze make him shiver and shake
May a lump of the stick raise the bumps fast and quick
On the monster that murdered Nell Flaherty's drake

Well the only good news that I have to infuse
Is that old Paddy Hughes and young Anthony Blake
Also Johnny Dwyer and Corney Maguire
They each have a grandson of my darlin' drake
May treasure have dozens of nephews and cousins
And one I must get or me heart it will break
For to set me mind easy or else I'll run crazy
So ends the whole song of Nell Flaherty's drake!

Been really busy here, lotsa writing mostly, but I am also imensly enjoying Zelda: Twilight Princes for the Wii, which was lent to me by J.Shelly, a friend on blogger and Real Life:)

Right now our family has a cold, so not feeling very good, but hopefully that will change by tommorow, so I can go to HSG.

Oh! And I am starting Drivers Ed next Thursday! So excited to finally be learning, even if I can't afford a Car or Insurance:PEinarhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12499181663801115074noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5761584014655700665.post-51284732510855371162009-12-31T23:02:00.000-08:002010-01-03T10:50:30.474-08:00Happy New Years! This is being posted one hour after New Years, Happy New Year everybody!!!!

We spend the entire time down in our newly refurbished basement playing our new WII!!!!!!!
Thats right, our family officially has it's second console, we go for sixteen years using only PCs, and then in one Christmas we get both a PS2 and a Wii! Guitar Hero 80s Rock FTW!!!

So far we have a bunch of games for the PS2, namely Guitar Hero, Vitrtual Fighter IV, and Rygar.

For the Wii, we have a hunting game which we have yet to try, the usual Wii sport pack, and Wii Resort pack as well. We (no pun intended) also have a racing game, Star Wars lightsaber duels (meh) and Monkeyball!

Funfunfun! So far I win 2/3 of the games I play, unless it is bowling, which I am good as, but my sister is INCREDIBLE at. She gets strikes 9/10 of the time!

The Resort Swordplay game is great and hilarious to watch: "Hah! take that!" "Watch out, you almost hit me there!" "What? I am trying to hit you!" "With the controller you dork!" WHAP! "HaHA!" "No fair, I was looking away!" "Well it's yer fault for-" WHACK!

*Evil chuckiling*

The Archery is the coolest though, You use the Nunchuk to pull back the arrow, and hold the Wii like a bow, so it is soo realistic.

This probably sounds stupid to anyone reading it, so just take my word for it, words cannot express how cool this thing is!
On the whole, today has been pretty good, got some presents finished (including one for Gracie's family, Muhahahaha!) and practiced my engraving for the first time in a loooong while, trying to make a little copper ring with crosshatching on it...going OK so far.
Now trying to learn The Boys of Malin on my Pennywhistle (A six holed end blown fipple flute for those who do now know the instrument, try saying that five times fast!) Also known as Tin Whistle, Irish Whistle, or just plain Whistle. I hope to post vids of me playing eventually, but that depends on what my parents think of the matter.

I know I promised pictures of snow, but my parents have been a little more protective of me lately in regard to the internet, so that may not come to pass either....grrrr......

<![endif]--><span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 14pt;"><span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 14pt;">So, after reading an article recently (<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif";">Going Cheney on Climate Debate<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 14pt;">) I had the misfortune to be given a paper to write in response to what I view as little more than a Liberal Rant. (Note the capital letters, this designates the article as a class 2 Political Phenomenon on the Einar scale, just slightly above Obama getting a dog rather than a cat, which is a 1.)
<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 14pt;">In the article the writer, a very opinionated journalist by the name of Thomas Friedman, claims that we should give the same degree of attention and recourses to Global Warming (A 3 on the Einar scale) as we would Pakistan Getting Nukes (A 10.)

<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 14pt;">This comparison is made using a Declaration that Dick Cheney Made (2) “If there’s a 1% chance that Pakistani scientists are helping Al Qaeda build or develop a nuclear weapon, we have to treat it as a certainty in terms of our response.”

<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 14pt;">Thomas claims that since Global Warming has far more dire consequences than Pakistan Getting Nukes, such as the Death of Polar Bears (0.5), it should be given just as much attention. Hidden within this argument are subtle suggestions that is should get more attention, since there is undeniably more than a 1% percent change that is will (is) happening. In fact, the few bits of data that were not proved false by the Climategate Scandal (7) were recently seen to correspond to the weather phenomenon El Niño.<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif";">

<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 14pt;">The one bit I found truly interesting was a clever attempt to dismiss Climategate as nothing more than a few scientists a little data, nothing particularily important.

<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 14pt;">“Climategate was triggered on Nov. 17 when an unidentified person hacked into the e-mails and data files of the University of East Anglia’s Climatic Research Unit, one of the leading climate science centers in the world — and then posted them on the Internet. In a few instances, they revealed some leading climatologists seemingly massaging data to show more global warming and excluding contradictory research.

<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 14pt;">Frankly, I found it very disappointing to read a leading climate scientist writing that he used a “trick” to “hide” a putative decline in temperatures or was keeping contradictory research from getting a proper hearing. Yes, the climate-denier community, funded by big oil, has published all sorts of bogus science for years — and the world never made a fuss. That, though, is no excuse for serious climatologists not adhering to the highest scientific standards at all times.

<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 14pt;">That said, be serious: The evidence that our planet, since the Industrial Revolution, has been on a broad warming trend outside the normal variation patterns — with periodic micro-cooling phases — has been documented by a variety of independent research centers.”
ROOT BEER FLOATS!!!!!

4. What do you do on Christmas Eve?
Go to eat at either my Mom's Dad's house, or her Mom's house, since they refuse to be in the same house, even on Christmas.
7. Do you usually have a white Christmas?
I have never had a White Christmas.

8. How long did you believe in Santa?
Never, my parents dislike the idea of Santa in general, and so do I. My grandpa did not know this however, so it was very confusing for me when he showed up at my 3rd Christmas dressed as Santa.

9. Who’s your favorite reindeer?
I don't discriminate, venison is venison.

13. Does Santa wrap the presents or just stick them under the tree?
Santa gets "bumped" by me in Wal*Mart so the whole line of plastic santas gets knocked over like a bunch of dominoes *evil snicker* fat RED dominoes....

I just realized that the sort of bagpipes I have been wanting to learn to play is not the Great Highland Pipes as I first assumed, but the Irish Ulian Pipes.

Highland Pipes have the same range as a recorder, are very loud, and are played standing.
Ulian Pipes are quieter, and have nearly twice the rang of GHB, enough to play something other than marching tunes. They ARE played sitting down, but use a bellows, rather than a blowpipe, thus allowing one to play without growing a second set of lung muscles.

I already have a practice chanter for the GHB which will be going up on e-bay soon, hopefully the money will be a good start to my practice ulian set.

I made this thing from the heaviest material I could find, it is water resistant, and so functions as a poncho when needed. Y-E-S

Favorite books? The Bible, obviously, but after that comes Tolkien's books, anything by Ted Dekker or Frank Peretti, most of R.A. Salvador's books, and nearly all of Garth Nix's books as well.

Do you compose music/write songs? Only a little, mostly, I play traditional Irish tunes. I do combine them to create sets however, does that count?

Do you like poetry? Meh, only Shakespeare

Love someone so much who made you cry? Aye

Broken a bone? Nope, I think I have strong bones, cause I once fell out of our barn loft (20+ feet) onto cement and was completely fine, didn't even roll properly

Been in a police car? Oh yeah! I have SHOT a police car. Long story, but the gist of it is, my Dad used to own a paintball arena, and the police came there to train (proud to say I got to yell "Allah Akbar!" and whoop their butts) and one day the door they entered for for the simulation got left open and I hit a squad car parked outside.

Been on a boat? Aye, ferries, canoes, pontoon boats, hopefully a sailboat soon.

Fallen asleep in school? If you cound dozing off while writing, yes.

Did you sing today? Not yet, but I plan to finish memorizing Hey Johnnie Cope later today.

KFC, Popeyes or Church's? KFC

Chick-fil-a or What-a-burger? the author came from another part of the country I think ;) (I wanted to remove this one, but refrained because I was afraid of being struck by lightning for messing up the tag)

Starbucks or McCafe? Starbucks....Hate anything afiliated with McDonalds

What's your favorite time of year? Fall/Winter, I seem to handle cold better than heat, although I like the critters that come with summer.

Do you ever talk to yourself? What? I never talk to myself do I? "Certainly not, that would be silly!"

Do you have a favorite treat you like to buy on occasion? The question is, is there a treat I do not buy on occasion. Top O 'th list is Jerky, (Venison) salted pork, lemonheads, sassafras boiled sweets, dark chocolate peppermint bark, buckeye balls, and raggedy robins.

Do you believe the Bible is the literal Word of God and is infallible? YES

What's your favorite sport? Uh, traditional or non-traditional? I like playing softball with friends every now and then, but I really prefer swordfighting, archery and hunting. Capture the Flag is fun too.

What color is your iPod? I *sob* have *sniff* no *wail* iPod. Only a little samsung mp3 player that I found out too late cannot connect to iTunes

If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go? Ireland, Scotland, Niger Africa

If you could go to any fictional place, where would you go? Dergan (world from my book)

Do you love to write or do you just like writing? L-O-V-E it

What do you want to be when you grow up? A.......writer.......

Favorite animal? Snakes without a doubt

Favorite song?
