The Parting Glass

Ok, so the next Trad Irish song, been awhile since I posted, so I figured I'd post this until something INTERESTING happens.

This one is the only one so far that I have not even begun to memorize, as I only found it recently. That is soon to change however, as I LOVE THIS SONG, and want it played at my Funeral :)

You can listen to a FANTASTIC version here. Seriously, I cannot reccomend this song highly enough to someone who likes Irish music, Bagpipes, or even music of any kind! LISTEN TO IT!

These are the exact same lyrics as in the video, and if you followed my advice and listened to the FANTABULOUS SONG, you will note that they do not come in until about halfway through. Also, there are a few lines of Gaelic just before the actual lyrics,I have searched long and hard for the translation, and simply cannot FIND them. My Gaelic is not yet up to scratch either, so I dunno what they say. Sorry :(

The Parting Glass
Trad. Irish song
From "Waking Ned Devine" soundtrack
arr. by Shaun Davey, sung by Liam O'Maunlai.

All the money that e'er I had
I spent it in good company
And all the harm I've ever done
Alas,It was to none but me

And all I've done for want of wit
To memory now,I can't recall
So fill to me the parting glass
Goodnight and joy be to you all!

Fill to me the parting glass
And drink a health whate'er befalls
Then gently rise and softly call
Goodnight and joy be to you all!

Of all the comrades that e'er I had
They're sorry for my going away
And all the sweethearts that e'er I had
They'd wish me one more day to stay.

Since it fell into my lot
that I should rise, and you should not
I'll gently rise and softly call
Goodnight and joy be to you all!

But since it fell into my lot
That I should rise and you should not
I'll gently rise and softly call
Goodnight and joy be to you all!

So fill to me the parting glass
And drink a health whate'er befalls
Then gently rise and softly call
Goodnight and joy be to you all!

Only song so far that brings tears to my eyes, both happy and sad.
Don't ya'll worry, I'll return to my ususal crazy scary self next post :)
Maybe....

  2. FINALLY! Gracie has admitted to liking not only an Irish song, but an Irish song with PIPES in it! *WIN!*

It IS a great song though, innit? Very sad, but happy at the same time ye'ken?
